A NILS loan helps people on low incomes buy essential goods and services without high-cost credit.
You can borrow up to $2,000 (subject to eligibility).
There is no interest and no fees.

What Can a NILs Loan Be Used For?
NILS loans can be used for:
Household Essentials
fridge, washing machine, furniture
Health and Wellbeing
medical or dental costs
Education and Employment
school uniforms, fees, work uniforms
Housing
essential home repairs (e.g. hot water systems)
Vehicle and Transport
car registration and repairs
What can’t a NILS loan be used for?
You cannot use NILS loans for:
- Rent, bond, council rates, or utilities
- Food, holidays, or living expenses
- Cash advances or paying off other debts
- Fines or penalties
- Moving or storage costs
- Second-hand baby items or electrical goods
- Private sales or used cars

Who Can Apply?
You may be eligible if you:
- Are 18 years or older
- Are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold an eligible visa
- Have lived at your current address for at least 3 months
(may be flexible in special circumstances)
You must also meet one of the following:
- Receive a Centrelink payment or hold a Health Care or Pension Card, or
- You earn less than:
- $70,000 per year (single), or
- $100,000 per year (couples or people with dependents)
There is no income limit if you have experienced family or domestic violence in the past 10 years.

- Your application is assessed and you are informed of the outcome.
